My Reasons Why

That “award” category is probably not suitable for this post, as you don’t need a reason to talk or vent about things like this that matter.

First of all, kudos to Irina (again) for the nomination and to Kimchi for creating the tag in the first place.

RULES:

  1. Mention the person who nominated you. (check)
  2. List 13 reasons why you keep going/living.
  3. Nominate 10 or more people to give their reasons why.
  4. Use the picture that I created in your post. (check)

My Reasons Why

1 and 2) Whenever this topic comes up, two people from the Boueibu fandom come to mind. One has already been taken by this sort of problem, while I won’t provide the internet name of the other one because I’ve talked them out of taking their life before on at least 2 occasions. If I remember these two, it’s easier to remember to live life to the fullest.

Sidebar: For some reason, the seiyuu rap project Hypnosis Mic is full of great life quotes and it has not-that-terrible English translations to go with them. In particular, “live the life you love, love the life you live” (from Daisu Arisugawa of the Shibuya team) seems appropriate for this post.

3) “Anime, manga and everything that comes with it” is basically a given for obvious reasons. Without them, there’s no aniblogging and no connections with people that I wouldn’t have otherwise.

4) To lead on from that, finding an anime/manga-related purchase in a store and actually having enough money to get it, or alternatively finding a volume of manga/set of anime discs I wanted to check out on the shelf of a library I can borrow from. Certainly, I could request the stuff myself, but the fact it’s on the shelf somewhere means there was enough demand for it in the region the first place, to the point where there seems to be a special sort of kinship behind said demand…

5) Going off numbers 1 and 2, being able to keep things in perspective. That way, you remember everything has an end, regardless of whether it’s good or bad, and it gets you back in the zone to keep on making the most of life while you still can. (Even if something’s a big deal now, try to imagine yourself in 1, 2 or even 5 years’ time – will you still have the same hang-ups you had today? Certainly not.)

6) You know that feeling when you’ve worked hard on something and you get an adrenaline rush from people liking and appreciating your effort? It’s not necessarily “senpai noticed me” and I’m not sure if it has a name, but that’s one thing.

7) Wanderlust. Not just the fact I still haven’t gone to Japan yet, but the fact I could (hypothetically) uproot my life and go to stay with relatives in other countries if I had the money and if I bothered to. There’s also just something special about going overseas, even if it’s to a place you’ve been to before.

8) Sleep. It sounds kind of counter-intuitive to say that when the average adult is meant to spend a third of their life sleeping, but sleep is undeniably beneficial in many ways.

9 and 10) On that note, public holidays and other breaks, to catch up on sleep…and anime…and manga…and all those other home commitments (pets, family etc.) you neglect while in the midst of stressful daily life.

11) The WordPress aniblogging community. I know this is going to be said again and it’s already been said lots, but the WordPress community isn’t full of drama or shitposters like it is on some other social media platforms, and when we have arguments, they’re a lot more civil than theirs. The Spellbook has only been around for about 5 months and I’ve only been on WordPress for just over a year, but I’d sure like to stick around and see what lies in store for us in the future.

12) Being able to talk and properly communicate to others when you’re down. This is coming off the back of the Koe no Katachi post, after all. (While I’m at it, I’ll just plug Auri’s Continue, Don’t Quit initiative here.)

13) For some reason, when I came up with a bunch of things I was thankful for, a tonne of them ended up being food…so I think the last one should be Japanese cuisine. Sushi is beloved the world over as well as being particularly significant as a friendship-forging/strengthening tool on my part, plus whenever I celebrate stuff with my family these days, it more often than not is commemorated with the purchase of bento/sushi boxes. Therefore, it’s not an entirely random choice.

Nominations

Since I skipped on Shoka previously, he’s the automatic first nomination…but hopefully that’s the only doubling up I’ve done with this list…That means anyone below shouldn’t have to feel pressured into doing this if they don’t want to.

That’s all for this post. So, regardless of whether you’ve been nominated or not, feel free to share your 13 reasons why you keep going, or keep living.

  1. I loved your reasons and I agree so much about what you said about wordpress. It is a calm in the storm of the internet. Thank you for listing your reasons and I hope you always hold them close to you.

    1. You’re welcome.

I also realised while I was looking for nominations I hadn’t followed you yet. As you may have noticed, I have since rectified that (but I think what stopped me was that you don’t seem to have a follow button as part of your theme).

      1. Huh, that’s weird. Other people have had similar problems with it, but not consistently. Thanks for letting me know, I’ll check into it.
