Thanks to my accepting of a nomination from Lina, we have ourselves some posts. So let’s send 2018 out with a bang!
The rules, from Merlin’s post (because Lina didn’t have them):
- Thank the person who nominated you
- Post three quotes on three consecutive days
- Nominate three bloggers to do the same
When I’ve seen this tag in the past, I’ve seen people nominate 3 people every day of their tag post, i.e. 3 posts x 3 nominations = 9 people in all. I think I’ll just nominate 1 per day, so it goes 1 nomination x 3 posts = 3 people in all instead, because this tag’s been around for a while.
Now, I’m an avid collector of quotes I like, so while I’m a good candidate for this, picking 3 quotes from stacks of them is undoubtedly like picking your favourite child. So which ones I pick here will definitely be an interesting experiment in showing who I am…at least, that’s what I thought before I picked my first quote.
…a gold medal is a wonderful thing. But if you’re not enough without one, you’ll never be enough with one. – Cool Runnings
I have never seen this movie, but I really wanted to make reference to it during the first blogiversary week, only to chicken out because I’ve mentioned I’m not a person who likes or is good at sports.
The thing about this quote is, it may not be a gold medal you’re aspiring for – it might just be a collab with that one blogger you’ve looked forward to or some other reward, either blogging- or non-blogging-related. However, if your content, hard work and dedication are for naught, you won’t feel satisfied when and if you win your reward. It brings to mind that moment in Boku no Hero Academia where Bakugo is raging at the sports festival and has to be restrained because he felt like he didn’t earn his position, plus the similar scenario with Endeavour after All Might vs. All for One.
You’ll notice I mention blogging a lot in the previous paragraphs. It’s because in my head, I associate this quote with trying to get a spot on a certain blogger’s weekly round-up post. However, I kept coming back to these round-ups week after week, hoping one of my posts would show up…only to realise this person was not reading my posts at all, so there was no longer any point to pursuing it. I had been featured in other people’s round-up posts at the time though, so I just decided to focus my attention on people who were actually reading my posts.
It doesn’t sound like much until you realise I hung around that blogger for months, following and liking posts in an attempt for attention. I don’t remember leaving more than one comment – if I ever did at all – because they kept including most of the same bloggers and didn’t say anything much of note outside “this segment is taking a break for a week” or “this week I didn’t get many posts because [reason]” and I wasn’t sure if I had enough pride to nominate a post for their inclusion because they never mentioned they had such a system in place.
I know it sounds like I’m complaining about this blogger and you might be following them, but I guess it’s all water under the bridge now. After all, if I don’t deserve a place in that blogger’s lineup, I never did.
The best quotes, I find, come from unlikely places, regardless of whether they’re anime-related or not. (Heck, I still have an idea on the back burner to relate Boku no Hero Academia to Sun Tzu quotes from The Art of War…I just don’t know how I’d go about it, though, so forget I mentioned it.)
Anyways, I need to nominate someone: at first my mind went to Scott (who tends to not get to his nominations that often) and Karandi (who might not have space in her blogging schedule), then Shoka (who hasn’t been around lately due to…uh, family circumstances). So I’ll pick Astral.
Unlike Shoka’s deal, I’m not going to give any of my nominations pressure over this, so take your time!
